Wallenberg Foundation to document righteous Armenians

Source:

New York – The following letter was submitted by The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation of New York to The Armenian Reporter on September 21:

On the 19th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia, the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation greets the Armenian Government, Nation and Diaspora and announces the launching of a new chapter which shall be dedicated to the study of Armenian history.

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation (IRWF) is creating a new chapter, which shall be dedicated to the study of Armenian history and will also focus on the preservation of the legacies of the Armenian heroes who were involved in the rescue of victims of the Holocaust, a theme which has not been properly documented so far.

The IRWF will pursue its goal, to educate and foster remembrance of the Armenian Genocide and will persevere to achieve its worldwide recognition.

We are dedicated to the study of Armenian history by means of our ongoing project of the foundation that focuses on the investigation of Rescuers of the Holocaust. Our research team focuses on unknown cases of rescue, involving diplomats and individuals, regardless of their religion, citizenship and gender. Several rescuers that had been researched by theIRWF were recently officially recognized by Yad Vashem as Righteous among the Nations, such as Stanislawa Slawinska from Poland; Karolina and Zsuzsanna Reszeli from Hungary; Coronel José Arturo Castellanos from El Salvador; and Jozef Borzecki and his wife, from Poland, etc.

There are currently 14 Armenian Rescuers whose deeds have been documented so far. It is our wish to explore new ways of underscoring their heroism and spirit of solidarity for the sake of younger generations. The Foundation is currently exploring the possibility of dedicating a street, a square, a monument or any other public area in Armenia honoring these brave Armenian Rescuers.

We believe that the existence of such homage can make a difference and would become an important educational tool for generations to come.

In order to study Armenian history it is important to educate the children and focus on its culture and traditions so the Armenian martyrdom shall not ever be forgotten. ”We are committed to the study and research of these tragic events and divulge them to the public at large” said Baruch Tenembaum, Founder of the IRWF.
