Sir Martin Gilbert meets with members of the Jerusalem staff

Last May 1st., 2009, during his stay in Jerusalem, Sir Martin Gilbert, an Honorary Member of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation , and his wife, Esther, met with Dr. Yoav Tenembaum and Mr. Danny Rainer, from the Jerusalem office of the Wallenberg Foundation.

Sir Martin has just participated in the making of a documentary film directed by American film-maker Michael King, based on Sir Martin’s upcoming book on the Diplomat Rescuers. The Wallenberg Foundation has collaborated with the film production team, providing valuable material about the rescuers.

Sir Martin and his wife Esther, took advantage of the meeting in order to explore other venues of further cooperation with the Foundation.

Sir Martin Gilbert is Winston Churchill’s official biographer, and a leading historian of the modern world.

He is the author of eighty-one books, among them the single-volume Churchill: A Life, his twin histories First World War and Second World War, a comprehensive History of Israel, and his three-volume work, A History of the Twentieth Century. He is an Honorary Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, and a Distinguished Fellow of Hillsdale College, Michigan.

His book The Holocaust: The Jewish Tragedy (published in the United States as The Holocaust: A History of the Jews of Europe During the Second World War) is a classic work on the subject.
