Lilo Gloeden, Germany

Kristine Bischof

Together with her husband Erich, Lilo fought for resistance to the Third Reich by giving shelter to those who were persecuted by the Nazis. Among those haunted were Dr. Carl Goerdeler, resistance leader and lord Mayor of Leipzig, and General Fritz Lindemann, who was associated with the assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944. Lilo, her husband and her mother were arrested, subjected to torture under interrogation and brought to the Volksgerichtshof special court for convicting high treason against the state. On November 30, 1944, all three were executed in Plötzensee Prison in Berlin.
