Helena Jacobs, Germany

Melissa Weiss

Helene Jacobs was born in Berlin, Germany in 1906. Her stated childhood belief that everyone is responsible for whom and what they encounter led her to fight Nazism.

Throughout her life she assisted individuals, who were being persecuted by the Nazis. She looked for others who felt the same and compelled them to provide safe haven for Jewish individuals seeking refuge.

While Helene was studying to be a lawyer, she was also working for a Jewish patent attorney. With the help of a man named Gunther Rugoff, she fabricated false identification for Jews escaping Germany.

On August 17, 1943, Helene Jacobs and other member of the underground group were arrested due to a confession to the Gestapo from a hidden individual.
