Wallenberg´s Day

Source:

Sir,

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation is an educational NGO created in Argentine. Few months ago we proposed the Buenos Aires’ government to mark the city’s calendar with a day dedicated to the memory of the Swedish diplomat, missing since 1945 after having saved the lives of tens of thousands of people condemned to death by the Nazism.

During WWII Wallenberg was the hero that saved Hungarian Jews issuing protective documents, a device created by Wallenberg solely to save Jews. In this way he saved also people that were already aboard trains towards Auswitz.

Happily this idea became a law. Therefore, since this year August 4th will be Wallenberg´s day in the city of Buenos Aires.

Wallenberg´s day is a powerful symbol of solidarity and civic courage, values that are essential for the preservation of liberty and democracy.
