Louise von Dardel, Raoul Wallenberg’s niece , met in Jerusalem with Yosef (Tomy) Lapid, Minister of Justice of Israel and Holocaust survivor saved by Raoul Wallenberg in 1944. The meeting took place at the Minister’s office thanks to the intervention of the IRWF. Mrs. Von Dardel was accompanied by Dr. Yoav Tenembaum, Vice-president of the IRWF and Alex Goldenberg, Director of Relations with the African Continent of the Wallenberg Foundation. In a very pleasant atmosphere, Mrs. von Dardel explained to the Minister the outreach of the world campaign ”Return Wallenberg” and the decision of the IRWF to address the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to clarify the fate of the Swedish diplomat who disappeared in 1945 after being detained by the Soviet Army.

Von Dardel emphasized the fact that Wallenberg is Honorary Citizen of Israel, a reason for all the efforts for the truth to be known should be doubled.

In Budapest, Wallenberg saved hundreds of thousands of people persecuted by the Nazi regime and its Hungarian allies.

Lapid expressed that Wallenberg’s case will surely be included in the agenda to be handled in the following encounter that an Israeli Minister has with the Russian Head of State. According to the Minister of Justice the Russians have no interest in hiding the truth about Wallenberg’s fate as well as the reasons of his disappearance.
