Before the war, Veronika was the nanny of Yitzhak Grossman, a Jewish boy in Budapest. When Grossman was 14, the Germans took him to a work camp. He escaped but was unable to find his family. He quickly found comfort in Veronika. She hid him for more than a year in the hospital where she worked. Although Grossman’s mother survived the war, he never forgot Veronika. In 1962, he brought her to Israel to live with him. She is now 80 years old and still lives with Grossman and his family in Ramat Gan.
