Anna Kopec, Poland

Kate Rubin-Marx

In the spring of 1940, the Krueger family was ordered to move from their home in Sowina, Poland to the ghetto in Kolaczyce; instead they fled into the woods. Abraham Krueger realized that his family would not survive, and decided to split them up. He found caring neighbors who would take them in. Anna and her husband, Stanislaw Kopec hid Abraham and his son Henry during the entire war. Sally, another daughter was hid there periodically. The Kopek’s created a hiding place in their attic and always shared their food with the Krueger family. To this day, Anna lives in the same house where she hid Abraham, Henry and Sally.
