Honoring Bravery and Humanitarianism: Stories of Rescue During the Holocaust

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation presents ”Partners of Hope”, a concert to commemorate the Holocaust and recognize those who displayed extraordinary courage to save Jews from genocide. The concert will take place on February 5, 2007 at Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium at 8 pm.

The performers include renown Israeli singer/musician, David Broza and Bulgarian-born soprano Anna Veleva, one of the most acclaimed singers from Eastern Europe and a rising star in the world of opera.

The evening will also mark the world premiere of the musical composition based on poems by Hyam Plutzik (1911-1962), whose poetry deals extensively with Jewish themes, anti-Semitism and humanism. He is the subject of a soon to be released documentary, Hyam Plutzik: American Poet a film by academy award nominated director Christine Choy and Ku-ling Siegel. The composition, ”Of Eternity Considered as a Closed System” was composed by Robert Cohen and will be performed by the Westfield Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its music director, David Wroe, and Pro Arte Chorale.

The concert will also feature Holocaust survivors, rescuer’s relatives and notable figures who will read from selected diaries, letters and other writings concerning the rescuers. Among them, Mr. Shashi Tharoor, Under Secretary General of the United Nations and Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman.
