President of Croatia addresses President Putin

The Presidente of Croatia, Stepan Mesic, wrote a letter addressed to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin urging him to solve the mystery of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg whose whereabouts are still a mystery since he was detained by the Soviet Army in 1945. Wallenberg is credited with saving tens of thousands of Hungarian citizens -mostly Jewish- condemned by the Nazi regime to perish in the extermination camps.

”I am writing this with reference to a letter sent to me by Mr. Baruch Tenembaum, founder of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation.” … ” In appreciation of the brave and selfless action of Raoul Wallenberg, I agreed, together with many others heads of state, to become a honorary member of the International Foundation which bears his name. It is precisely in this capacity that I am addressing you in order to support the appeal of Mr. Tenembaum concerning the publication of the full and complete truth about the fate of a man whose name will remain written in bright letters in the chronicles of the Second World War.”

”I am convinced, dear Mr. President, that you will do everything in your power to meet the request of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation, and I would like to thank you for your kind effort.”, wrote President Mesic.

According to Tenembaum: ”President Vladimir Putin is the only person that can shed light on the tragic case of Raoul Wallenberg”. A worldwide campaign of 100,000 signatures has been launched by the Wallenberg Foundation. The global appeal will be presented to President Putin and to the United Nations whose Secretary General, Kofi Annan, is married to the niece of Wallenberg.

Along with President Mesic several other personalities addressed President Putin, among them: the Nobel Prize laureates: Shimon Peres, Yuan Lee, Richard Roberts, Zhores Alferov, Paul Lauterbur, Herbert Hauptman and Paul Crutzen.
