President of the Republic of Latvia, Vaira-Vike Freiberga.

”Let me tell you that people in Latvia are also working to find out full information of more than 30 Latvian- Righteous Gentiles- who saved about 350 Jewish people. Zanis Lipke, a simple port worker, who saved 55 Jews is the most beloved by survivors and Latvian people in general. I truly believe that it is a sacred duty to honor the epic deeds of Raoul Wallenberg who saved the lives of one hundred Jews condemned to certain death by the Nazis during World War II.”
