Letter from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) addressed a letter to the IRWF regarding the fate of Raoul Wallenberg. The letter is signed by B.S. Khristophorov Head of the Department of Registry and Archive at the FSB, and came as an answer to a letter sent by the IRWF to the President of the Russian Federation D.A. Medvedev.

Rescuer’s Visas Registry Book Exhibited in New York

New York, July 21, 2010 – The ”Bordeaux Registry Book,” where the Portuguese diplomat Aristides de Sousa Mendes noted the names of all the people who received his visas to freedom during the Holocaust, was unveiled during a ceremony at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Sousa Mendes’ birth.
The loan of the ”Bordeaux Registry Book” was made possible thanks to the direct intervention of Mr. Luís Amado, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, who personally acceded to John Crisostomo’s request.

Israel Channel 10 Featured a Story on a Case Researched by the IRWF

Israel’s Channel 10 (”Arutz 10”), on Oshrat Kotler’s news program ”Chadashot Hashabat im Oshrat Kotler” featured on July 17th, 2010, a special item about one of the most moving cases researched by the IRWF: The story of Zalman Shiffer and his search for his lost brother, Juanito.
The item was prepared by Mr. Henrique Cymerman, a renowned international TV reporter, newspaper journalist and writer.

Ben Olander’s Musical Lecture on Raoul Wallenberg at a Festival in Buffalo, NY

Ben Olander, a renowned Swedish folk singer, performed three musical lectures on Raoul Wallenberg at the ”Scandinavian Festival” in Jamestown, NY, held on July 16-18, 2010. Ben performs regularly in Sweden and abroad spreading Wallenberg legacy and the message of piece, kindness, and the importance of standing for what you believe in.

A Ceremony in Honor of Coronel Castellanos held in El Salvador

The Official Ceremony honoring Colonel José Arturo Castellanos, who was recently declared Righteous Among the Nations, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador on Tuesday, July 27. The IRWF was part of the team that worked on achieving this recognition.

Connecticut Proclaims Raoul Wallenberg Day

Following the initiative of the IRWF, Governor M. Jodi Rell has proclaimed October 5th, 2010 as Raoul Wallenberg day in the State of Connecticut. This is the third time that the State of Connecticut is honoring the memory of Raoul Wallenberg by proclaiming his day.

Info on Polish family who helped WW II Jewish girl wanted

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation in Jerusalem is searching for information about the living relatives of the Mislinski family, who aided a Jewish girl during Nazi occupied Poland during WW II.
The Mislinski’s, who gave shelter to Raquel Dronzek in 1943, lived in Miastkowo, Podlaskie province, north east Poland.

Righteous Gentiles honored in Warsaw

Some 50 Righteous Gentiles, non-Jews who risked their lives to rescue Jews in Poland during the Holocaust, were honored in Warsaw. The luncheon was ”one of the largest-ever gatherings of Holocaust rescuers and one of the last of its kind, as many of these rescuers are elderly,” a spokesperson for the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous, which hosted the event, told JTA.
Poland’s chief rabbi, Michael Schudrich, and the Israeli and U.S. ambassadors to Poland also attended.

Grave of Warsaw Ghetto heroine vandalized

The grave of a woman who saved thousands of Jewish children in the Warsaw Ghetto has been desecrated, according to Polish authorities. The words ”Jews out” were sprayed onto the Warsaw gravestone of Irena Sendler, a woman honoured by the Holocaust museum Yad Vashem as one of the Righteous Among the Nations. Police have launched an investigation after the graffiti was discovered in the Warsaw cemetery.
