Commemorative Seat

Name: Reflexive seat to commemorate the life and work of Raoul Wallenberg
Location: St Kilda Town Hall, corner of Carlisle Street and Brighton Road.
The Mayor of the City of Port Phillip Cr Liz Johnstone, inaugurated the artwork.
Constructed of recycled kauri and metal, the contemplative seat wraps around the liquid amber tree planted in Wallenberg’s honour in June 1994 by the Reverend Tim Costello, the then St Kilda mayor. It includes an inscription from the Talmud in both English and Hebrew: ”…and whoever preserves the life of a single human being … it is as if he preserved an entire world.”

Description: A monument was erected in 1985, honouring the Swedish
diplomat and humanist, Raoul Wallenberg, who during 1944-45, saved
thousands of lives in Hungary.

Name: Raoul Wallenberg.
Trees were planted in memory of Raoul Wallenberg with explanatory plaques at the front of the Federal Parliament in Canberra. Four others trees were planted in Melbourne, specially one in front of the entrance to the Port Phillip Town Hall. Also at Kilda Street, Anderson Street, Hawthorn, Caulfield Park, and in the campus of Mount Scopus Memorial College.
